Lutheran Forum Cover Artwork

I wasn't sure where to write this, but I had to mention it somewhere.

I have had to start hiding my copies of Lutheran Forum when they arrive, because they have become conversation pieces with my 7 year old son who thinks that they must be something not Christian being sent to me. 

The second-to-last Forum had a picture of a guy sitting on his own head.  My son was thoroughly convinced that this was something that couldn't be written by Christians and that I should throw it away.

This quarter's Forum (summer '08) contains a number of pictures that reminded him of Greek mythology.  Again, I haven't been able to disabuse him of the thought that I'm reading about Greek gods and not about Lutheran theology.

Something to think about.

The Lutheran Witness has had strange artwork on the covers once in awhile for a few years now too.

Yeah, my son didn't get to that part.

It didn't make him happy, so it must not have been Gospel.  According to some definitions of "Gospel," of course.

Funny you should mention this today Scott.  My first issue (yes I signed up) arrived yesterday.  My 8 year old son found it and was giggling at the picture of the "naked boy."  I guess 8 year olds don't get ecclesiastical art (neither do some 44 year old second career pastors).

My five-year-old didn't seem to react all that negatively.  In fact, she's been pretty absorbed by the covers lately.  She does tend to live in that creative part of her brain.  A little paper, crayons, scissors and some glue and she's a happy camper.

I like the latest cover.  Panu Hemminki's journey to faith through art was also enjoyable to read.
