CTS Professor Kurt Marquart Called to Eternal Glory
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (CTS)—Early on the morning of September 19, our Lord called home Dr. Kurt E. Marquart, Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. “Dr. Marquart was a distinguished colleague, beloved professor, and brother in Christ,” said Dr. Dean O. Wenthe, CTS President. “After suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease, he died peacefully at home. Earlier in the evening he had baptized his new great-grandson, Evan. As baptism joined Dr. Marquart and Evan to Christ’s death and resurrection, we confess that he now enjoys that full life that Christ gives to those who are joined to Him (John 10:10).”
Dr. Marquart was born in Tallinn, Estonia, June 20, 1934. He had been a member of the CTS faculty since 1975 and served on many boards and committees throughout The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. Before coming to the seminary he served parishes in Queensland, Australia, and Weatherford, Texas. He was a 1959 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., and had been awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree (Honoris Causa) from Concordia University–Wisconsin, Mequon, in 2001.
Dr. Marquart is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, and children: Danny; Cynthia (Johnson); Barry; Angela (Hill); and Anthony. They have also been blessed with many grandchildren and one great-grandson. Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
