St. Paul Lutheran Seminary
« on: July 15, 2021, 08:12:28 PM »
Today I learned of this institution for the first time (from the LutheranCORE newsletter ‎<lcorewebmail@gmail.com>).

As one might expect from LutheranCORE, Dr. James Nestingen plays a prominent part. StPLS seems to serve the preparation of people from many different Lutheran bodies for ordination.

Its contact locations are in Georgia and SW Minnesota. Does anyone on this board have more detailed information on it?

Peace,
Michael

Not sure what to tell you. I served on the Board of Directors some years ago. I don’t think Rev. Julie Smith is on this forum, but she serves as  academic Dean I believe.

I resigned the board when I was elected to the Board of Regents of the North American Lutheran Seminary.

Here is the website:

Thanks, Pastor Donna. I had the e-address and have read the website, but I still would like to know how vital this institution is, how far it goes beyond words on paper and Internet addresses.

Peace,
Michael

Michael,

St. Paul Lutheran Seminary came out of a schism with another institution, namely the Institute of Lutheran Theology, in 2011, I believe. I don't have much contact with the folks at St. Paul Lutheran Seminary, so I can't say much more than that other than it is an online based school like ILT.

In the interest of full disclosure, I serve on the faculty of the Institute of Lutheran Theology.

Thanks; that's helpful.

St. Paul Lutheran Seminary claims links with Sioux Falls Seminary. Two things it doesn't seem to claim are links to a specific denomination or church and a library.

As I mentioned in my private message, both ILT and St. Paul's are independent Lutheran schools, not controlled by a particular denomination, though most students at both schools would come from the "centrist" Lutheran camp of NALC, LCMC, CALC, etc.

To make things more confusing, there is a Lutheran House of Study at Sioux Falls Seminary.  Steven Paulson is one of the faculty members.  There are ELCA students who are pursuing M.Div degrees through Lutheran House of Study. https://www.lutherhouseofstudy.org/about

You can never go wrong with Dr. Nestingen. Excellent preacher and teacher.

St. Paul's seems like a decent school. I'm Facebook friends with Pastor Marney Fritts, another one who can deliver the goods.
