My father, a longtime VU professor, died late Saturday night after having had a stroke earlier this month. I'll be preaching at his funeral this Saturday.

Deepest Christian sympathies, Rev. Speckhard, confident in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection on the Last Day because of our Lord Jesus.

We know whence comfort comes and that it is promised. Trust in the promise and take care of the family and yourself.

I pray that God will bring you and your family the great comfort of the gospel as you mourn the loss of your father, Peter. Take to heart the words of our Lord, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live and he who lives and believes in me shall never die."

"If we have been united with Him (Jesus) in a death like His, we will certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His." The hope we have in our Savior is through His promise for us received in baptism and faith. God comfort you and your family during this time, Pr. Speckhard.
