Rev. Paul T. McCain, RIP
« on: November 26, 2020, 11:48:12 AM »
A message from President Harrison:

Our Lord Jesus has called to Himself our brother and fellow servant in Christ, Rev. Paul Timothy McCain (Feb. 12, 1962 - Nov. 25, 2020) to await the blessed resurrection unto life everlasting. Paul served as a pastor in Iowa, senior assistant to LCMS President A.L. Barry, and was serving as the Publisher at our Concordia Publishing House. Funeral arrangements are pending. The Lord blessed Paul with a passionate zeal for the Gospel as taught in the Scriptures and confessed in the Book of Concord. Join us in prayer for Paulís wife and children, and his CPH family. Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed!

Wow indeed. Does anyone know if he was ill? Was this in any way expected?

This is shocking news.  So young!  God blessed his church through Paul.  Feisty, energetic, and theologically sound, he was a born teacher.  I pray that the peace of the gospel Paul faithfully proclaimed will bring comfort to his family.

Blessed are You, O Lord, teach me Your statutes.

The choir of Saints has found the fountain of life and the door of Paradise. May I also find the way through repentance. I am the sheep that is lost: O Savior, call me back and save me.

Blessed are You, O Lord, teach me Your statutes.

Of old You created me from nothing and honored me with Your divine image. But when I disobeyed Your commandment, O Lord, You cast me down to the earth from where I was taken. Lead me back again to Your likeness, and renew my original beauty.

Blessed are you, O Lord, teach me Your statutes.

I am an image of Your ineffable glory, though I bear the scars of my transgressions. On Your creation, Master, take pity and cleanse me by Your compassion. Grant me the homeland for which I long and once again make me a citizen of Paradise.

Blessed are You, O Lord, teach me Your statutes.

Give rest, O God, to Your servant, and place him in Paradise where the choirs of the Saints and the righteous will shine as the stars of heaven. To Your departed servant give rest, O Lord, and forgive all his offenses.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The threefold radiance of the one God let us praise, and let us shout in song: Holy are You, eternal Father, coeternal Son, and divine Spirit! Illumine us who worship You in faith and deliver us from the eternal fire.

Now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Rejoice, gracious Lady, who for the salvation of all gave birth to God in the flesh, and through whom the human race has found salvation. Through you, pure and blessed Theotokos, may we find Paradise.

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. Glory to You, O God
Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. Glory to You, O God
Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. Glory to You, O God

With the Saints give rest, O Christ, to the soul of Your servant where there is no pain, nor sorrow, nor suffering, but life everlasting.

The Churchís loss is Heavenís gain ... and an unanswered email ...

For some years I have been the recipient of devotional texts from a LCMS pastor.

Some weeks ago, I ask the pastor if I could contact CPH about theses texts being used a Portals of Prayer devotions.  Finally Sunday evening I write the email ... now never to be answered.

We thank God that He used Reverend McCain to do great things for His Church and rejoice that the Victory in Christ is now his for eternity.

This is a shock.  We were blessed by his writing, learned much through too little private communications, our congregation blessed by his daughter serving as a summer intern one year and clearly showing the love of Christ radiating through the McCain family.  May the Lord give them solace in their grief through the sure knowledge of reunion in Heaven.

He invited early readers of Lutheranism 101 to share photos while reading it -- I was the wise guy reading it with Old Faithful geyser erupting behind me on a glorious -10 F day in Yellowstone, our backyard in those days!

The What About Series ... as timely today as when they were originally released ... truly Biblical and Lutheran in content and confession.

Available individually thru the link above ... or as an almost complete collection in Unchanging Truth in Change Times .. the What about Islam? and What about Mormonism? are in addition to the Unchanging Truth collection.
