Nominees for Concordia Seminary President Announced

You know, if we here at alpb had been the electors and needed to pick a Preus as interim, wouldn't we have gone with RD Preus?  I wonder if they gave him a look and then decided on a son of Robert Preus who was already living in St. Louis.  We'll never know - you could have been a contender, RD!

How you keep it clear which Preus is which is beyond me. It is like the handbook.

Two Preus pastors joined the LCMS ministerium in the 1950s: Jack and Robert.  Jack's son Jack became a pastor.  Robert's sons Daniel, Klemet, Rolf, and Peter became pastors.  The Preus pastors of the following generation are all my sons: David, Paul, John, Mark, Stephen, Christian, Andrew, and James.  Peter, our youngest, starts the seminary in the fall.  Hans Fiene, whom you may know from Lutheran Satire, is my sister Solveig's son.

Isn't your brother Christian in a program leading to ordination?  Or has gotten there already?

No.  Sometimes people get my son Christian confused with my brother Christian.  My son Christian was ordained four years ago.

Are there only two Christians in your family, then? 

I'm reminded of the Newhart Show, with Larry, his brother Darryl and his other brother Darryl.


I'm curious, though, do the Preus pastors alone constitution a quorum at an LCMS convention?

No, there's another one.  I have a grandson named Christian Rolf Preus.

Dan Preus himself is not going to be a candidate for the permanent position, so that's in the same vein as the University bylaws. 

I take it you don't know Daniel Preus that well, Dave.

Does the synod have a tradition of "vanity" nominations?  By that I mean nominating individuals as a form of public recognition, with the full knowledge most will decline?  Maybe that's not quite the right word.  ELCA synod bishop nominating process can have its fair share of "favorite son" first ballot nominees.

If you go to the very first post in this thread, you will find that there were 44 nominees for the first round.  So, 42 may be seen as progress in trying to get things under control.
