A defining moment for the Evangelical Covenant Church
« on: June 20, 2019, 01:38:46 PM »
At their Annual Meeting in Omaha, June 27-29, our Pietist cousins in the Evangelical Covenant Church will face a familiar controversy. At issue is the possible involuntary dismissal of First Covenant Church, Minneapolis. Charges have been brought against the church which revolve around issues of human sexuality and the degree of freedom local churches have in determining their own course.

Those are both rather gracious and peaceful letters. I hope it remains that way with that denomination.
Retired ELCA pastor. Iowa born. Now in Minnesota. Interesting things on the new administration and religion in the 1/24 newspapers. Douthat column, e.g. Posted link here, but it was deleted.

A couple of congregations in my county which had been United Church of Christ departed for the ECC about a decade and a half ago.   My recollection is that abortion, human sexuality, and God-language were the pivotal issues.

There were three other departures from the UCC; one became Evangelical Presbyterian, one purely independent, and one "Reformed" but not Reformed Church in America.

First Covenant Church of Minneapolis is removed from the ECC:

They will be a part of an association of like-minded congregations called the Covenant Collective.
