Now Thank We All Our God for the blessings of 2018
« on: December 31, 2018, 11:44:38 AM »
[An opportunity to reflect upon the blessings you have received from the merciful hand of God in the year concluding today; slightly different, I think, from the invitation to reflect on the highlights]

...for allowing me to spend time with my brother at his daughter’s wedding just weeks before his unexpected death.
...for the joy of Rebekah (our youngest) married to Andy.
...for the birth of youngest grandchild (#8), Evangeline Grace.
...for pastors whose preaching invites us into the marvel and joy of the Word of God.
...for wonderful times with friends and family
...for the blessings of health and work

I thank God for the privilege of preaching the gospel and administering the sacraments.  I thank him for a pious and faithful wife.  I thank God for my wonderful children, their wives and husband.  I thank God for six more grandchildren in 2018 and for providing them all the new birth in Holy Baptism: Daniel Rolf Preus, Eve Idella Preus, Abigail Dorothy Preus, Emily Ruth Preus, Sarah Ruth Preus, and Marian Elisa Preus.  Five girls in a row!  It looks like the girls are catching up with the boys!

I am thankful for all God's gifts, especially:
* a congregation where the Divine Service direction is primarily from God to us - Jesus comes weekly via the means of grace,
* a loving, caring extended family - one new addition in 2018,
* a church family that would do most anything ethical to help each other,
* close friends that would do most anything to help my family,
* good medical and dental care and good health,
* outstanding funeral services that proclaim Jesus and minimize eulogies for departed friends,
* opportunity to support a country where I'm safe and opportunities abound,
* the use of technology to facilitate study and proclamation of the Word (mainly podcasts, Kindle, internet, email and text), and
* being alive to look forward to whatever God gives us in 2019 and beyond.
