The synod staff works with congregations in candidacy, the call process, formation, leadership development, stewardship, evangelism, church finance, property administration, congregational management, and conflict resolution. The staff also maintains the roster and carries out work in accounting and communication.

NOTE: Former Bishop Robert Rimbo resigned effective, January 24, 2018.  An interim bishop will be appointed.

At first I was going to ask why.  But then a bit of targeted googling gave me an answer.  I had not seen any news about this until this thread.

I did not realize that Pr. Rimbo was previously a bishop in Michigan, but resigned to take a parish call in New York.

I mentioned this unfortunate circumstance in my post in another thread yesterday. In his recent letter, after patting himself and his congregations on the back, the bishop also wrote,

"We urge people of faith and good will to take solace and comfort in the fact that there is a strong current of inclusion, unity, acceptance and celebration of faith among the faithful in the places we gather – houses of worship, communities. This is the message we as spiritual leaders want to convey to people of faith – especially now in the most holy time of year and in a time where our collective faith has been tested by so much societal malice."

It isn't only societal malice....

Here's the text of an email from Presiding Bishop Eaton to the Conference of Bishops:

Brothers and Sisters,

It is my unfortunate duty to tell you that the Rev. Robert A. Rimbo resigned Wednesday, January 24 after being confronted with allegations that he was involved in an extramarital affair with an adult. He also resigned from the roster of Ministers of Word and Sacrament.

I am working closely with the synod vice president, Maria Del Toro. An interim bishop will be appointed.

Please keep Bob, Lois, their family, and the Metropolitan New York Synod in your prayers.

I find this incredulous at best, coming from the man who searched the internet high and low to find any association linked to my username here, so that you could put a name to my anonymity at the time.  In fact, your successful efforts at "unmasking" me then really constituted an obsession.

I'd post your PM's on that from a few years back, but they are long gone.

It may be the case that some of us do not wish to be criticized for even sharing simple facts.  Because if you're perceived as belonging to another tribe, even that is an affront to some.

I take no pleasure in this news, just as I do not about the current president, or past presidents.  That I feel the need to state that here bothers me.

The MNYS web site does not mention Bp. Rimbo's resignation, but still names him as the sitting bishop.  I don't know why.

This most assuredly is not a secret.  At least one NYC pastor has explained the situation by email to his entire congregation and has asked everyone to pray for all affected.

You have a nice day, Pastor Cottingham. Sorry You were disturbed today when my research efforts failed me.

Bishop Eaton relates well to her co-workers.  Her sign off signature to the Conference of Bishops: Liz

It reminds me of the pastoral letters sent by LCMS President Dr. Ralph Bohlmann to all the clergy:
His sign off signature was: Fraternally, Ralph

Bottom Line:  It warms your heart on a cold winter day, that our denominational leaders relate to us
on a first name basis.

I think I'm going to close this thread to further comment. The sad situation in New York calls for our prayers, not our discussion, at least for now.
