Bible Answer Man Converts to Greek Orthodox

The only reason I ever heard of this fellow was a dust-up years back when LCMS President Kieschnick was on this man's radio show.

I take it the fellow now believes in baptismal regeneration?  :)

Looks like a lot of Evangelicals are going crazy that the Bible Answer Man converted to Orthodoxy.  I thought you Lutherans might be interested in this because it seems one of the main objections that the Evangelicals have is that Orthodox teach baptismal regeneration and emphasize the Sacraments. It just seems strange to me that these Evangelicals will praise Luther one moment and then damn those who believe in baptismal regeneration as being part of a "dead, ritualistic religion."

Here are few examples:

"The Orthodox Church is a false expression of Christianity, much like the Roman Catholic Church, that is highly driven by graven images and denies the biblical doctrine of salvation by grace alone through faith alone, and instead, trusts in meritorious works and a sacramental system for salvation."

Wow!

Yeah, after the "graven image" tirade, it made me wonder what those "Evangelicals" might say about this Lutheran church in Milwaukee:

Bravo Sierra.

Orthodox Icons are written two dimensionally, not "graven" like post schism Western statuary.

Quote
Thy pure image do we venerate, O good One,
asking forgiveness of our sins, O Christ our God;
for by Thine own will Thou didst ascend the Cross in Thy body,
to save Thy creatures from the bondage of the enemy.
Thou hast verily filled all with joy,
since Thou didst come,
O our Savior, to save the world.

I think this Pulpit and Pen fellow would tell you Lutherans that you have retained too many of the "rags of popery" based on these examples of beautiful Lutheran altarpieces.  I am so glad Lutheranism is not iconoclastic.  What a dreary, plain world that would be.

I rather doubt that these shrill voices represent a cross section of Evangelicals. They don't seem to like anybody really. Sad.

I remember a strict Calvinist who, for a time, worshipped with us because there was no church of his denomination in the area.  The first time he was with us, he told me that the sermon was OK but he hated the "idols" we had on the altar (a crucifix and a statue of the risen Jesus).  We had a number of interesting discussions before he eventually found a church in Fargo (about 75 miles each way) more to his liking.

While I agree with you in terms of the way Evangelicalism is practiced, the theory of the "sell" for outreach, remains weird and sectarian to many in more liturgical Christian settings.  The Orthodox and Roman Catholics are not counted as Christian believers.  That has been happening here in New York as more classically "born-again" traditions make a move on the City and other cities.  It is sad.

He used to visit my church, too.  He would come out of church, compliment me on my sermon, and then criticize me for wearing an idol around my neck.  :)

So while rapprochement replaces enmity in one corner of God's church, suspicion and division are found in another. Come Lord Jesus.
