I find Donald Trump to be a serious candidate. His win in New Hampshire and his poll numbers make him a very serious candidate. I also find it to be a very serious concern that he is a serious candidate. I think that there will be serious consequences for the nation if he is elected.
What I don't find him to be is a good candidate. His admiration for Pres. Putin of Russia, his joking comments about the usefulness of Putin's manner of dealing with journalists, his joke about being able to shoot someone in broad daylight and not loose support both speak to a strong streak of authoritarianism in Trump that disturbs me. Some of his policy proposals are not only unrealistic (getting Mexico to build us a wall along our border with them) but disturbing (shut out all Muslims, for a time). His resorting to half-baked conspiracy theories, such as the anti-Obama birther theory and now the "Canadian Cruz". Etc. etc.
He has struck a cord and tapped into a deep vein of discontent among very many people, his supersized ego and extravagant confidence, his willingness to resort to crude and vulgar language all qualify him to be demagogue in chief, but Commander in Chief? I pray not.
