On a sad note I remember the death of a 20 year old student
at Notre Dame in October of 2010.  He was in video tower
filming a practice in the football stadium.  The National Weather
Service had issued a wind advisory which was ignored by ND.
The gust of a 52 MPH wind took his life.

The State of Indiana issued 7 safety violations against Notre Dame
and fined them.  Coach Brian Kelley was in charge of the practice
session.  This death could have been prevented.

Keeping up with the latest news, Pastor? :D

It was the famous sportswriter Grantland Rice who wrote:

"For when the One Great Scorer comes
To mark against your name,
He writes...not that you won or lost...
But how you played the Game."

I can imagine that he might have difficulty getting that past a Lutheran editor.  :D

The college football season kicks off this week and defending
national champion Ohio State is ranked #1 in preseason polls.

The Buckeyes have two consensus preseason All-Americans on
both offense and defense.   Running Back Ezekiel Elliott and
Offensive Lineman Taylor Decker plus Defensive Linemen Joey
Bosa and Adolphus Washington.   It is indeed rare for one college
to have 4 First Team All-American selections.  Ohio State also has
3 Second Team All-American picks.

Bottom Line:   The Big Ten Conference is happy to have Ohio
State as one of its teams.

You are so right, Pastor Likeness.

I am gearing up for a BIG football weekend.  On Thursday, I hope to watch the Browns not lose too horribly to the Bears.  On Saturday, I intend to experience my first Cougar football game (of Concordia-Chicago fame) live and in-person plus ending the Labor Day weekend by watching my beloved Buckeyes play on Monday night.

Now if only the weather would cooperate and be fall-like!

See you at the Cougar game. You and your beloved are welcome to watch the ND-Texas game on my new big-screen TV in the evening. I promise to have Lutheran beverages.

Noting the suspension of Tom Brady being thrown out, does that mean that now the Offensive Quarterback now sets the inflation level for the football?

The freedom of Tom Brady means that the New England
Patriots have their quarterback for the start of the season.
The decision by Judge Richard Berman means that NFL
Commissioner Roger Goodell is losing the faith of NFL
owners to make good judgments

Just heard in a commercial:

"[Fantasy football site] has definitely changed my Sunday! Made it a lot more interesting!"

The latest AP College Football Poll has 5 Big Ten teams ranked.
#1.   Ohio State  4-0
#2.   Michigan St.4-0
#16  Northwestern  4-0
#19  Wisconsin  3-1
#22  Michigan  3-1

The non-conference schedule is completed in Big Ten and now
the conference games begin.  This is where it gets interesting
as these ranked teams start playing against each other.

What has happened to the once mighty Packers?  I have not been able to see the last three games.  And I am glad (that I have not seen them)!  Not since 1991 have the Lions won in Wisconsin -- and they play there every year.  24 years.  1-7 beats 6-2.  Unbelievable.
