Rear Admiral the Rev. Daniel Gard
« on: February 14, 2013, 03:27:21 PM »
Pastor Ted Crandall just posted this on another thread, where some might not get the news:

Chaplains,

Please join with me in congratulating our newest flag officer, Chaplain Dan Gard, CAPT, CHC, USNR to Rear Admiral (lower half) for the Naval Reserve Chaplain community. Dan is currently serving as Joint Task Force chaplain, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  Dr. Gard serves the church as full-time professor of Exegetical Theology, Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne and is also the Dean for Military Chaplain Programs at the Seminary.  Blessings, Dan, on your promotion and service to God and Country!

Mark J. Schreiber
CAPT, CHC, USN (Ret.)
Director, Ministry to the Armed Forces

That's printed in NAVY, of course! Thanks, Pastor Crandall, and congratulations, Chaplain Gard!

Peace,
Michael

I replied to this post in another thread -- but I'll repeat it here.

Congratulations on your well deserved promotion Dr. Gard.  May the Lord be with you as you endeavor to fulfill the ministry you've been entrusted with.

So...? Where is Dr. Gard? No comment on this turn of events? Too big a party? (The Navy does that well!!!)

Is it unseemly for Navy chaplains to perform carrier landings? This old Air Force man would pay to see that! ;D

(For you civilians out there, these usually happen INSIDE the officers' club during times of celebration.)

Congratulations!

Congratulations Admiral!

I am surprised, though, that your shocking, annually repeated act of disloyalty has not prevented this promotion.  I write, of course, about your fervent desire to see the USNA team lose each fall to the Little Leprechauns by the Lake.

In all seriousness, thank you for your service to our country and for your ministry.

But "Rear Admiral (lower half)"? *teenage snicker*

Rear Admiral the Rev. Daniel Gard. . . .

So it sounds like you're bringing up the Rear Gard.

And rightly so! Congratulations, Chaplain Gard! Well done!

Yes, congratulations indeed.  Where will the wetting down party be?  Or do you have to go to knife and fork school first?  (for those unfamiliar with the Navy, these are inside jokes).

A further word to those not that familiar with the Navy.  Usually, a chaplain is addressed as:  Chaplain, and not by pay-grade (rank)...and because his pay grade will be Rear Admiral (Lower Half), we would not want others to confuse that with Lower Half Rear Admiral.   :)
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen.
