Did anyone else see the irony in this report on Synod Assembly actions from the current issue of "The Lutheran".

Southeastern Minnesota Synod
May 6-7, 2011
Rochester, Minn.

• Recommended that the ELCA Church Council remove from the Health and Benefits Program pastors who have left the ELCA roster.

• Urged strategies to prevent bullying and harassment.

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

It's only bullying if the victims are special enough.

Exactly, "bullying" or "hate crimes" can only be committed against members of a special, designated victim class, and then only if it is committed by those who aren't also members of the class. For example, when older athletic homosexuals bully younger, weaker homosexuals, that's not really bullying.

I have heard that CORE is putting together a health and pension plan that should be quite competitive and will give NALC, CORE and LCMC members another avenue, I for one would welcome another alternative (LCMC has its own plan also). My comparisons in the past have revealed that the ELCA plan is competitive and I have enjoyed their Embody Health incentives which more folks should take advantage of but as a new LCMC pastor I am ready to move on if possible. My experiences with the empoyees of the BOP have over the years been quite good and I commend them for their work and attitude.

Second that.

The BOP took the initiative in contacting me after my congregation's first dissolution vote to explain how they could remain an option for us, and to outline the procedure to follow if we wished to continue in their plans.   We did wish to continue and their procedure was smooth and virtually seamless.

Our experience has been the same.  It has been refreshing to encounter one group within the ELCA who seeks to carry out the intent of what "bound conscience" was meant to embody.
