But I also ask for your prayers for myself..... I will get the results 2/23, and be referred to an ALS specialist at UT Health Science Center on 3/9..... This is a seriously faith-testing time.

You will receive the results on the day when the universal church remembers Polycarp, the Martyred Bishop of Smyrna, and you will make your first visit the ALS Center on the day when the universal church remembers the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste.

May you face the days ahead with the courage and strength of the Martyrs.

Kurt, may God grant you and your family the full measure of his grace and mercy every day, and a bountiful measure of relief and healing.

Kurt, receiving an ALS diagnosis is difficult for the strongest of God's faithful children.  My prayer is that in the days ahead you have access to the best that medical care has to offer as you face unknowns associated with ALS.  May God's loving presence be the substance that draws you and your family together in mutual love, support, faith and hope.

I join with all the saints, here and elsewhere, lifting you and your family up in prayer.  May God provide you with healing, courage, and peace.

Devotions by the author, a Lutheran pastor, after he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, and which appeared in the monthly newsletter of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato, Minnesota from February 2002-August 2008.

Kurt, I spotted this several years ago and sent for a copy. It doesn't come to hand immediately (I may have passed it on to someone). If I spot it, I'll let you know. Meanwile, God bless you.

Thank you for all your prayers and kind words. What comfort I have seen so far is in the support of my family, and the unexpected strength of my mother who just turned 80 yesterday. What a birthday present for her! My church family is behind us all, so I take comfort in the fact we will have their support. I still ask God why this has to happen to us, but I know I'll never get the answer on this side. What I do know is I will continue to work with my at-risk students until it is no longer physically possible, and resist this disease as long as I can hold out.

Prayers for LCMC Pastor Tim Hauge's family as he was killed yesterday afternoon when the brakes failed in the semi he was driving in Odessa, Washington. He was much respected in the small farm community of Odessa. My guess is he was helping in the local wheat harvest. He did a lot of that kind of thing for his people....in addition to being their Pastor.

Will certainly pray for Pastor Hauge's family - how very sad and tragic.  May the find strength and comfort in God's grace.  So sorry, Lou.
