We we join in prayer for the people of Newnan, GA as they nervously await tomorrow's clash of white supremacist and anti-fascist groups.  I've heard from family living there and residents are quite anxious.  May God turn hearts filled with hate to see all persons as his holy creation.

The 19th and 20th of April are days of infamy; including the birthday of Adolph Hitler, the assault on the Branch Davidians in Waco, TX; the bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City; and the Columbine High School shooting in Littleton, CO.   These days are dark enough already.

An email just arrived from Alban Institute with the news of the death of Loren Mead on May 5.   Perhaps many of you, like me, enjoyed his writings and seminars.  A link to his last interview was included in the email:  https://alban.org/2018/05/07/loren-b-mead-the-last-interview/

Blessed are they who die in the Lord  ...
that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.

Betty Ann (née Sachs) Christ, wife of long-time Forum participant Pr. Tim Christ (Pilgrim), was called from the Church Militant to the Church Triumphant this afternoon (Monday, May 7).  Rest eternal grant her, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon her.  Arrangements are pending.

Thanks for the link, Eileen, and thanks to God for the service to congregations throughout the country of Loren Mead.  The interview demonstrates his lifelong passion with the issues and opportunities of local congregations - the parish was his passion, and I and many friends utilized the Alban Institute's books and pamphlets to great advantage.

Re. the Ordination and Ascensiontide threads:  Perhaps it is time to take a deep breath and pray for the gifts of repentance, a traditional historical understanding of Scripture, respect for the authority of Scripture, and the ability to love our neighbors no matter what.  I perceive all the hoo-ha is because it is very sad to see brothers and/or sisters go down errant paths, especially when Scripture and the Confessions warn about errant paths and repeatedly show the clear path.  However, we all need to remember it is only our command to cast seeds, not to nurture and grow them - that is God's work.  We are the creature, He is the Creator.

For the saints of Trinity in Milwaukee, whose historic building suffered a massive fire today. Lord, have mercy.

It appears that it is most likely a total loss.  I can't find any record of a resident pastor.  Is it vacant?

I am not sure of the pastoral situation; I know the great musician Dr. John Behnke is their organist.

The church's webpage (under the "Contact Us" section) mentions a Pastor Hofmann.  In searching for pastors with that surname in the Milwaukee area, I find Hunter Hofmann (listed as "No Current Position") living in Grafton.  Hunter was a year behind me at seminary, but was a second career man, so I wonder if he is/was serving them in retirement?

According to a member who was interviewed, they are currently vacant as their pastor retired at the end of 2017.

Prayers requested for the wife and children of Pastor Timothy Olson who was tragically killed in a car accident this morning in Charlotte, Michigan.  I came to know Pr. Olson in the early 90s when I was serving in the Michigan District.  He was the senior pastor of First Lutheran Church in Charlotte, MI, where he has been since 1999.  Just yesterday he posted on FB this verse from Psalm 68:19: "Blessed be the Lord! Day after day He bears our burdens; God is our salvation."  What a wonderful thought to leave this life with!
