I ask your prayers for my son Luke and his family (wife and 2 1/2 year old daughter). As they were beginning a vacation in New England last night, they were in a fairly serious car accident. They are OK, thank God; the other driver seemed not to be seriously injured but was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Rental car totaled, and today will be dealing with insurance, rental company, police report, etc. Please pray for the other driver, and for wisdom and calm for them.

Glad there were no serious injuries.

When I hit a deer with a rental car, I knew that the collision and comprehension were covered by my car insurance. What was not covered was the loss of use. They figure that during the time the car is in the shop they can't rent it. I received a bill for that amount. Someone suggested that I contact the credit card company I used to rent the car because some of them carry insurance on purchases. I did. They paid it.

Friends, I will be having double-jaw surgery tomorrow morning, with bilateral joint replacements. Please pray for everything to go well and recovery to be as nausea-free as possible. Baptizatus sum!

Not nearly as serious as other prayers requested and offered her, but prayer of thanksgiving for my wife Jan for successful knee replacement surgery and for her continued recovery and physical therapy.

Please keep the cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in prayer. All residents of Gatlinburg are under mandatory evacuation because of the spread of wildfires in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Parts of Pigeon Forge are also under evacuation orders. A number of structures in Gatlinburg are currently on fire; the Dollywood complex in Pigeon Forge is on the edge of the fire line as well. A number of areas inside the national park have also been evacuated, including the park headquarters. There are also wildfires in northern Alabama, Georgia, and western North Carolina; but at this time the cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are under the most danger. Please pray for rain. Please pray for the firefighters, and for the safety of all in these areas.

Give thanks with me for the birth an hour ago of our new grandson, as yet unnamed and unmeasured (as far as we know). We're in Rochester NY for the month to help out (including me serving as supply pastor for the month  :-\ ); we've rented a house but got the call to come over to our daughter's late last night. They finally left for the hospital about 5:30 a.m. and called an hour later to say he was here! Baby, mother, father, 15-month old sister, and grandparents all doing fine.

That's terrific!  Very happy for you and your entire family.  Your grandson missed just missed my son's (2nd child) birthday on Monday.  I remember my in-laws providing the same service to us...it was greatly appreciated.

Serving as supply pastor is a small price to pay for all this.   ;)
