From the ELCA's News Release:

Two of the victims – the Rev. Clementa Pinckney and the Rev. Daniel Simmons of Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston – were graduates of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, an institution of Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C. The Columbia, S.C.-based seminary is one of eight ELCA seminaries; Lenoir-Rhyne is one of 26 ELCA colleges and universities.

“The suspected shooter is a member of an ELCA congregation. All of a sudden and for all of us, this is an intensely personal tragedy. One of our own is alleged to have shot and killed two who adopted us as their own,” said Eaton.

Someone asked on Facebook about the shooter's membership. No one, as of yet, has responded with any details.
"The church ... had made us like ill-taught piano students; we play our songs, but we never really hear them, because our main concern is not to make music, but but to avoid some flub that will get us in dutch." [Robert Capon, _Between Noon and Three_, p. 148]

Since this is now out in various internet forums, I will mention it here. Please keep Pastor Tony Metze and the congregation of St. Paul's ELCA in Columbia, South Carolina in your prayers. The young man accused of killing the 9 people in Charleston and his family are part of that congregation. Prayers for this congregation, and especially Pastor Metze, as they deal with the impact of these events and the ministry that needs to be done in this situation.

If you can spare a petition or two, my husband, Lawrence, is having his pacemaker/defibrillator swapped out today. Should be routine surgery, but prayers are always coveted. Thank you.

Yes, prayers said.  May God's will be done with the surgeons, medical staff and your husband.  May the peace of God be with you while you are waiting on the sidelines.

After a seven hour delay, just received the word that surgery was successful. Thank you all for the prayerful support!

Yeah, I just texted him to see if he was OK.  He said that one of his employees was teaching at the school but he too is OK.  But all is chaos, as you can imagine.
