In your charity, please remember my wife Stephanie and her family in your prayers as they mourn the passing of her mother this week.  Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life.

May the Lord grant comfort to Stephanie and yourself and to your children, David! "Here we have no abiding city...."

Prayers requested for the assembly in convention at the Atlantic District, LCMS, beginning later today and going into Saturday.  A new President/Bishop will be selected tomorrow late in the morning, twenty-four years after the last such selection. Also prayers for six other districts around the country with conventions this weekend, and for those national representatives traveling to get to them.

And the New Jersey Synod-ELCA, which begins meeting in Long Branch, New Jersey, this afternoon.
Retired ELCA Pastor. Iowa native. Now in Minneapolis. It is now clear that the election of 2020 was not stolen. But we see now how it was nearly stolen after the balloting. Some of our top officials assisted by corrupt lawyers, attempted to steal the electoral college. Some true patriots saved us.

And for the Executive Committee of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the United States who will be travelling to Constantinople a.k.a. Istanbul (relatively hostile territory these days, as the name change implies) to meet with Patriarch Bartholomew in preparation for next year's Great and Holy Council.

Bishop,

Let us know how our prayers for Atlantic District are answered. So many there that would be a blessing!

Rev. Clementa Pinckney, pastor of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC, who, along with 8 others were killed in a shooting at the church, is a graduate of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He earned his M.Div. there. Prayers for all the families and friends who lost loved ones in the shooting; and prayers for the shooter.
"The church … had made us like ill-taught piano students; we play our songs, but we never really hear them, because our main concern is not to make music, but but to avoid some flub that will get us in dutch." [Robert Capon, _Between Noon and Three_, p. 148]

Thank you.

The situation is so sad now here in South Carolina.  The whole state is in mourning. Most people are at a loss for words.  In the South Carolina State House, Clementa Pinckney's desk has been covered with a black silk cloth and a vase of flowers.

From the AP....

A librarian and recent college graduate are among the nine people killed by a white gunman in a black church in downtown Charleston.

State Sen. Clementa Pinckney, 41, the pastor of Emanuel African Methodist Church, had already been identified as one of those killed.

Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said Thursday the others have been identified as Cynthia Hurd, 54; Tywanza Sanders, 26; Sharonda Singleton, 45; Myra Thompson, 59; Ethel Lance, 70; Susie Jackson, 87; the Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr., 74; and DePayne Doctor, 49.

Sanders had recently graduated from Allen University. Hurd worked for Charleston County's library system for 31 years. Doctor was an enrollment counselor at Southern Wesleyan University's Charleston Campus, according to a friend."

We grieve for those who lost loved ones even as we pray for them.
