If the color of the stole matters, then it should agree with the rest of the paraments.  A rainbow stole, to me, always seemed as if the pastor was too confused as to what season/day of the Church Year he was in.  That, plus it looks too much like a clown for my taste.  But that is just my opinion.

Could it be because "rainbow stoles" have come to have a particular political meaning in the ELCA?

From what I remember about Herb Brokering, he was into rainbows long before they were a political statement.  I'm sure the choir members wore the stoles to honor him, not to support any particular political stance within the ELCA.

Should the choir be wearing any stoles? Aren't they meant to be a sign of ordination?

Was not the service at Central Lutheran .... was not the steeple knocked over .... must have been leftover from the previous service.....
