Is there any of our ELCA brethren that use a one-yr lectionary?

Aren't the collects copyrighted by Concordia Publishing House?  Guess McCain is the only one who can get away with putting these on the internet.  :)

Why does tradition trump Scripture when it comes to the Filoque in the Lutheran Church?

We at University Lutheran Chapel in Minneapolis get to sing both gems tomarrow.

"Come, Holy Ghost, Creator Blest" (Sarum setting) as processional hymn.

"Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord" (by Luther) as hymn of the day.

Hopefully, this is not the last year we get to do so.

You have to get the kids going to C&A early in their life and it could become something they would avail themselves to for the rest of their lives.

I always thought the LC-MS forbade the unBiblical practice of having women pastors (elders/presbyters). :)

A wide variety of doctrine and practice is permitted in the LCMS.  I would have to disagree that I'd feel at home at any LCMS parish I dropped into.  The Synod is walking in many diverse ways.

Your Turn / Re: What Would You Do? - Confirmation for One

Does his parents want him to be confirmed so he can receive the Eucharist, or do they want him not to have to go through 2-yrs of catechesis?  I'd say, if it is the former, go ahead and distribute the Sacrament to him prior to confirmation and still give him 2-yrs of classes.

Your Turn / Re: Is a Eucharistic Prayer unLutheran?

Kinda odd that those most vehemently against Eucharistic prayer are all for using Luther's baptismal liturgy with its long flood and other prayers.  Wouldn't all that praying "obscure" the Sacrament of Baptism too?

it is truly good, right, and salutary to give God thanks and praise..... except for Christ's testament?

Your Turn / Re: Must We Believe in the Virgin Birth? Provocative Column
« on: December 27, 2010, 01:38:37 PM »
I thought the incarnation, Virgin birth, the two natures of Christ, Christ's death and resurrection, the Holy Sacraments weren't that important anymore.... the real test of orthodoxy these days is what a church thinks of homosexuality.

Restoring the prayer offices would result in memorization of great portions of the Psalter.
