at the conclusion of the service we sing "God bless our native land."  The organist added his own festive flavor to the day by giving us as recessional the Washington Post March!  One little girl on her way out of church tonight observed:  "That doesn't sound like Jesus music."

Trinity V in our congregation....

Hymns worshiping God alone -- no nation worship.  Whether Pastor will include a petition in the prayers I don't know.  Certainly there will be no celebration of the sin of our forefathers in revolting against their government and starting an unjust war.

from what I've seen, Pr. Brock is more of a Baptist than a Lutheran.

It doesn't seem likely that many prodigal daughter congregations of the LCMS would return to the LCMS.  Congregations of the ELCA from the AELC are among the most liberal parishes in this denomintation.

More likely wanting to join the LCMS are the more conservative former ALC congregations.

Your Turn / Re: That pesky Matt 28 footnote: Priebe explains

"Jesus now sends the disciples to make disciples of all nations. That does not mean make everyone disciples. Most people who are helped by Jesus and believe in him never become disciples. Jesus includes in salvation people who do not believe in him or even know about him. Disciples are students, called for the sake of the world to learn from Jesus and to bear witness to the kingdom."

UFF DA!

This is very sad to see!

How did the fundraiser go at Jehovah?
Were a lot of funds raised?

Is Fr. Bob enjoying his GPS?

Is the Bishop planning on trying to outdo his little brother?  Maybe on Jepardy?

The "hot seat" on Monday and Tuesday on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" will be filled by the Rev. Robert Benke, brother of The Rt. Rev'd David Benke.  Robert Benke is pastor of Jehovah Lutheran in St Paul, MN and is an instructor at Concordia University, also in St Paul.  His church is holding a potluck fundraiser party on Tuesday night.   Check your local listings.  The show is at 4pm and at 7pm in the Twin Cities.

The lavabo doesn't make much sense these days since the innovation of the blessing of the children at the rail has become so commonplace.

The antiphons for the introits sometimes include passages from the Dueterocanotical books, but are labelled as "liturgical texts".

When did the mission of the Church become that of providing classical music on the radio?

Time for a ecumenical council with Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, gnesio-Lutherans, and traditional Anglicans.  Wouldn't it be awsome if all parties involved were serious in dialogue?
