Your Turn / Re: Epiphany Plans
« on: December 14, 2021, 10:02:19 AM »
We do an Epiphany blessing with the chalking of the door headers at our church, and at both the nursing home and the assisted living facility in town.  We used to chalk individual doors in the assisted living facility pre covid, and I am suspecting we may be able to do that again this Epiphany.

(It seems to me that the dire predictions of Dr. Fauci that it wouldn't disappear are ringing more true than Trump's early assessment.)

No more than president Joe Brandon's prediction that he was going to "end this" pandemic, who oddly enough has done many of the same things that Trump did, with about the same effect.

when it comes to divisions (be they political, religious, or personal), I've used the materials from Peacemaker Ministries for years and sometimes quite successfully.  Granted, any reconciliation requires two willing parties, and that may be impossible in the present climate, for the numbers you cite.

I think the recent stabbing spree/murder at Columbia University definitively shows that the problem is not guns, but the human heart and the evil therein.

And reiterating a point made by others already:  9mm is the most common size for handguns/ammunition today.  My concealed handgun is a 9mm (A Sig Sauer 9mm, I might add).  Why parents would give such an obviously troubled kid one goes to my first point:  we've got a heart problem, not a gun problem.  They could have just as easily given him a knife or machete, which would have been equally troubling.

The mandates are working.

Then you obviously don't live in the heartland of America, to utter such nonsense as that.

Either that, or if by "the mandates are working," you mean supply chain shortages, now looming hospital staff shortages, few willing to work for a living in most sectors, inflation through the roof, a divided America like no other time before in history, then I guess you would be right.

It ain't rocket surgery.
Vaccinations prevent illnesses.
Vaccinations prevent deaths.
Vaccinations prevent transmitting the disease to others who might get seriously ill and die.
Those things are true beyond a shadow of a doubt. If you think they are not, I believe you have a real serious problem.
Where I live the vast VAST majoring of people now hospitalized with the virus have not been vaccinated.
Peter says "Well, gee, not everyone gets real sick and a lot of people don't die and sometimes the virus is just like a cold and maybe the 760.000+ people who died where just unlucky and blah blah speed limits and those who just got a little sick were 'those whose experience with covid was normal' and why don't we focus on them rather than all the icky stuff about ventilators and death?"
I find that obscene. "Those whose experience with Covid was normal"? As in a little fever, a cough or two? Tell that to the millions of people who were family, friends, co-workers of the 760,000.

Way to apply your twisted brand of logic to what i said (you've been duly called on it already by others), and way to ignore what I actually said.

I indicated I was not vaccinated, but yet the HcQ that I take regularly for a completely different disease is likely why I wasn't even aware I had it.  I will not use any of the 3 vaccines, all of which were tested on and/or developed using aborted human tissue.   Despite that I saw no one else here claim a religious exemption, that is a very clear religious objection if I ever heard of one.

And just why is it that no one is talking of all the breakthrough cases with those who have been vaccinated, and have even died?  (uh, General Powell immediately comes to mind...).  your statement "those things are true beyond a shadow of a doubt" is patently false.  that you believe them unswervingly in the face of so much contrary data tells me that we both have the same problem:  you.

Now back to ignoring you.

So I am a walking paradox.

I tested positive for Covid.  I've apparently had it now for 9 days (meaning I'm free of quarantine tomorrow already).

It was confirmed yesterday, only because my vaccinated wife and brother in law both tested positive with moderate cases.

We had strong winds early last week, that left me with a day of chills, mild sinus congestion and an intermittent mild cough - no fever at all, checked several times.   Given that I was functioning normally, I wrote it off as my usual bout of allergies that occurs this time each year when harvest is in full swing.

Did I mention that I am not vaccinated?  According to some fear-mongers here, I should be dead now.  The difference?  I take regular hydroxychloroquine for my rheumatoid arthritis.  The doctor agrees it likely kept me nearly asymptomatic, meaning I also would not be spreading it to others.

Given how many "breakthrough" cases we are seeing (and often not getting reported - I wonder why?), one has to wonder about the effectiveness of the vaccines to begin with.  The 94% threshold of effectiveness seems to have been broken long ago.

A majority of American now agree that Dr. Fauci “has lost all credibility.” If you lend any credence to what he says, you are in a shrinking minority.

I said, "Why is that exactly?" His response: "I have no idea. People make shit up."

In June, the head of the clinical research department where I receive regular care for rheumatoid arthritis told me that if they followed their protocols the way the vaccine trials were conducted, they would lose their licensure as a research site for new medications, and potentially face criminal charges.

I was just listening to a podcast talking about an experiment done with children where they are offered one treat, or told that if they will wait 20 minutes to eat it, they can have two treats. (I'm oversimplifying, but you get the point.) The percentage of children in African agrarian countries who waited the twenty minutes was consistently much higher than in America or Europe. One theory is that people in agrarian cultures have learned to be patient, waiting for weather, crops, etc., while people in industrialized nations have lost that ability because they think everything is instantly and inevitably available.

However you measure - total deaths or death rate - COVID-19 is near the top of the list of pandemics.

Actually he didn't usurp any control. He was prepared to and might have usurped authority if the president had attempted a nuclear attack, but it never came to that point

Your whole premise and argument is based upon a complete fabrication.  There was never, I repeat NEVER even a HINT that Pres. Trump was even considering such a move (my emphasis added).  Considering that nuclear weapons haven't been used since the end of WWII, I find your whole argument to be null and void.

Even better news still would be if the mask and vax shamers would finally just shut up.
