Are you opposed to mandatory gun training or not? Apparently, some states require training others do not. I do not propose that all states must impose additional training to what they already require but that states who do not require training should require it.

My understanding is that in EVERY state, for a concealed handgun permit, there is mandatory coursework and training.  Obviously it will vary from state to state, but there is no state in the union where you can simply go in and get a CHP without taking the required course first.  Here in Nebraska, it is 8 hours in the class and 2 hours at the range, with the requirement of passing a range safety and shooting test, along with a written test first.  Nebraska, I've been told by a certified state police instructor, has some of the more lax requirements for the CHP.

Are you saying that you, with your tolerance for dissent, is typical of how members of the ELCA, including Bishops and Synodical administrations, seminaries, and the like treat those who do not fall in line with the policies growing out of Human Sexuality Social Statement. Would you stand up for those who feel themselves mistreated? Have you in this small forum stood up for those who feel mistreated for their dissent or is your first reaction to doubt the stories or explain that some who are mistreated bring it on themselves and so we should understand that their treatment is deserved.

I can answer that.  The answer is a resounding "NO."  My first encounter with one Charles Austin was on this forum.  My first post under my previous incarnation here (I left after a time because of the nastiness I encountered, and only came back when his previous incarnation was given a lifetime ban) - had to do with a failed first vote to leave the ELCA (failed by 1 vote).  The snark I received from him without him knowing any of the details of the congregation, me, or any other aspects, was overwhelmingly accusatory and negative.  It's been all downhill ever since.

Apparently the Fall of 2010 is archived or just gone now as I cannot find either of our previous incarnations, to post a link to it.

What is your real objection to continuing discussion of guns in our society?
I’m tired of the discussion too. But I’m also tired of continual news such as the horrors that were reported yesterday.
Of course it’s “political.“
And so is your discussion concerning abortion laws.

NO, I do not think that guns are a moral or religious problem, any more than I think that obesity, cars, etc are.  Immoral people are the problem, not fat, or cars, or guns, yet cars and fat kill more people every year than guns do.

And since I so rarely post here, how are you privy to any discussion of mine on abortion laws? 

Now if you want to discuss the human heart problem, then I'm all in.  But until then, or until someone shuts this latest thread giving you a forum for your bully pulpit to screech against the horrors! of gun ownership, it is a complete and pointless waste of time.  I've heard every argument you've thrown out here before, which was my point.  Problem is you don't seem to be able to comprehend how some people might honestly disagree with your position, and how they might actually even be right.

I will renew my objections to this whole thread, as it sure seems to have become a clear violation of the "non-political" rules that were enacted two years ago.

Please shut it down.  There is nothing new being said here, and the partisan lines are as stark as ever.

P.S.  There are at least 21 iterations of this same thread already archived on the forum...  and this list is just looking at the first 4 pages of searching for "guns."

So why do we allow Charles to blatantly ignore the rules here and post yet another highly partisan and political screed against guns?  Seems he (and all of you) rehash this every year or two, usually when some nutjob who slips through the system on multiple levels uses a gun to kill others.

I vote to shut this thread down immediately.

I've solved the whole issue.  Since we can identify as whatever we want to be, and everyone has to respect that...  I identify as a founder from Star Trek DS9.  I'm a shapeshifter, so I can be whatever I want to be, and since I control the whole Gamma Quadrant, you'll all eventually be bowing down to me soon.  My Jem H'adar stormtroopers will see to it!

Dr. Robert Kennedy (a liberal Democrat) and his book "The Real Anthony Fauci." 

It is nearly 400 pages of Fauci's 50 year career of using deceptive and often unethical practices and studies to outlaw drugs like HcQ and use the same deceptive and unethical practices to promote toxic and ineffective drugs like Remdesivir.  All I can tell you is to read the book, and examine the exhaustive footnotes and endnotes that support his claims.  Fauci did the same thing during the AIDS pandemic that he did during Covid, and people died as a result, unnecessarily.  Yet he and his cronies pocketed millions.

I'm somewhat amused by people who say they will continue masking because they believe that will protect them from infection when actually masked are to keep you from infecting others.  i don't know how we've gone 2 years and folks still don't get it right.

Neither is true, even according to the CDC's own internal statements, and still it persists.  Analysis of filtration of specific masks vs either droplet or aerosol size of shed covid virus shows just how ineffective both cloth and paper (surgical) masks really are.  I've posted the data here before.

I personally believe restrictions should probably be lifted in many ways. Not that they that I believe they’re not necessary or that they don’t work, but I worry that the civic and social damage might be a bigger risk than the infection itself.

Glad you finally came around.  Some of us have been saying this from the beginning.

I worry that those who oppose masking and other precautions concerning the pandemic are unduly influenced by some truly wicked forces in our society, and that they are being misled, and that some of them simply aren’t very bright.

And I worry that those like Anthony Fauci are misleading America, all for their own personal gain, and are the REAL wicked forces that are influencing folk like you.  I would refer you to Robert Kennedy's book "The Real Anthony Fauci."  And FWIW, those who are influenced and brainwashed by Fauci et al. are not very bright.

So let’s back off the masking, back off some of the other restrictions.

It's truly a remarkable thing to see liberals suddenly "backing off" their draconian restrictions that have destroyed the economy, divided the country more than it already was before, and perhaps killed more people than it saved.  Guess there must be an election coming soon.

it was suggested, albeit not very seriously, that I acquire a "blaze orange" stole to be used during the most holiest of seasons in my first call in Wisconsin:  Deer season.

The week of Thanksgiving, which was cut short in the schools with a Thursday/Friday vacation, usually saw less than 50% attendance the Monday through Wednesday of deer season.

At the hospital where I work, over 90% of the patients in the ICU with COVID are unvaccinated.  There is a cascading effect, as people who should be in the ICU can't get there for lack of beds.  I welcome any encouragement for vaccination, from any source.

We do an Epiphany blessing with the chalking of the door headers at our church, and at both the nursing home and the assisted living facility in town.  We used to chalk individual doors in the assisted living facility pre covid, and I am suspecting we may be able to do that again this Epiphany.
