Your Turn / R.C. Diocese Renames Crystal Cathedral

On June 9, the former Crystal Cathedral was renamed
as Christ Cathedral.  The Roman Catholic Diocese  of
Orange county, California now owns the former landmark
church of Rev. Robert Schuller.

In November of 2011, the church and campus were sold
in bankruptcy court  for $57 million.   The saga of this famous
TV evangelist and his "Hour of Power" program is finished.
Unfortunately, Schuller promoted "possibility thinking" instead
of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He openly stated that
he did not like the word "sin", since it was too negative.

Schuller was also bankrupt spiritually as he merely peddled  the
power of positive thinking from Norman Vincent Peale.  There
was never a message of the crucified and resurrected Christ who
died for our sins.  Instead he wanted everyone to cheer up
and be happy.

Your Turn / Should an LCMS District President Have Term Limits?

I was surprised to see that Rev. Dr. Jon Diefenthaler of
the SouthEastern District could not run again this year
for DP.  He had served 3 terms  and that is their limit.

If there are no term limits for the Synodical President ,
then why restrict District Presidents to term limits?

Does anyone know of any other LCMS Districts which have
term limits?

It amazes me that Pastor Austin comes up with these gems:

"Don't get your Cassocks in a Crumple."
"I don't have a Camel in this Caravan."
"I don't give a Rat's Rump."
"I don't give a Churchmouse's whisker."
"That Coyote got no howl."
"In the name of Aunt Minnie's Pot Roast.'

He is averaging one gem a month this year.
In December, everyone will have a chance to vote on the
best gem of the year.  As a token of appreciation for our
resident wordsmith he will receive a copy of the latest
edition of Roget's Thesaurus.
