The LCMS college in New York has elected a new president: Rev. Dr. John Nunes.

As with all who are elected to positions of authority, including those within the Church, it is hoped that he will serve well in this new capacity.

With Dr. Nunes' past involvement at Lutheran World Relief, his name is known among many on the Forum. Maybe he can join his fellow college president, Dr. Daniel Gard, in posting here?

Your Turn / Some Not-So-Good News in LCMS

Though there have been some good headlines and reports about some matters, the opposite also exists.

This hit the front page of the Chicago Tribune web edition on FEB 27 evening:
"Concordia Masters Students Accuse University of Fraud"

The article deals with a lack of accreditation for counseling masters degrees. Apparently, there was a decision by the school not to seek accreditation with an organization that oversees schools that offer graduate degrees in counseling. But this was done in the middle of some 11 students' time of completing their coursework.

Accreditation is a big issue for our universities, especially for those who are seeking further degrees or employment in secular positions. It's probably worth its own discussion among our Synod's higher education officials.

I hope that the Concordia Chicago (River Forest) staff can get to a good end with this matter.
