Your Turn / Lessons and Carols
« on: November 20, 2021, 03:30:11 PM »
I just had a request from our Sunday School music director for services of lessons and carols that she can use as a jumping-off point.  Anyone have such an order they would care to share?  Thanks.

Your Turn / Bjarne Teigen Reformation Lectures
« on: October 26, 2021, 09:28:00 AM »
Anyone else attending these lectures at Bethany College in Mankato, MN?  This will be my first time; I usually go to the Good Shepherd Institute at the Fort Wayne seminary but this is closer (and cheaper) AND the speakers all have LCMS connections.

Your Turn / Disposal of Vestments

What do you do with old vestments that are no longer fit for service?

Your Turn / Bible Study Recommendations?
« on: June 21, 2021, 10:54:35 AM »
Yesterday the lay leader of our Sunday morning adult Bible class approached me and said there was a desire among the class to have a study about government, especially in areas in which the Christian may disagree with governmental practices.  This class meets between services here in town, while I am leading services at the country church, so I am not around to teach it myself.  Looking at CPH, I did not find much.  Does anyone have any recommendations?

Your Turn / Need Help Finding...
« on: July 13, 2020, 11:45:37 AM »
A while back, someone posted a link of a video presentation made to law students about what concealed carry permit-holders should say/do when dealing with law enforcement.  Can anyone refresh my memory as to who was the speaker, or where I can find the link?  Thanks.

Your Turn / Singing in Church
« on: June 07, 2020, 05:56:02 PM »
We began holding public services again on May 31.  The last two weeks, we have spoken the liturgy and only used two hymns (to open and close the service) because of a concern about singing as a means of spreading the COVID-19 virus.  But I, and others, miss the singing.  So, my questions are: how many of you holding public services are singing?  Have you made concessions in that area?  How many hymns?  Speaking the liturgy?  Any feedback from members?

Your Turn / Pre-Filled Communion Cups
« on: June 02, 2020, 09:50:32 AM »
Is anyone using these?  The only ones I am seeing have grape juice (not wine) and am wondering if, I can find them with wine, they are something we should look at for the future.  Thanks.

Your Turn / LCMS Rural/Small Town Ministry Conference
« on: September 14, 2019, 10:01:53 AM »
The Rural and Small Town Ministry Conference is being held in Minneapolis in mid-November.  I have never attended but am considering it this year, as it is relatively close ( I usually go the Good Shepherd Institute at the Fort Wayne seminary in November).  Has anyone any experience with it?  Is it a large group?  How helpful did you find it?  Anyone planning on attending this particular event (apparently there will not be one in 2020, or maybe in years to come at all)?

Your Turn / Service of Sending for College Students
« on: August 07, 2019, 04:34:18 PM »
We will again soon be having our service of sending for those leaving the area to attend colleges and other institutions of higher learning.  I am wondering if any of you here would have resources/orders you have used that you would be willing to share.  Thanks.

Your Turn / New LCMS Catechism -- A Question
« on: December 06, 2017, 11:51:15 AM »
I just received the new LCMS catechism and was leafing through it.  On page 101, under the discussion of the Sixth Commandment and divorce, it says this:

"Note: Sadly, divorce cannot be avoided in many circumstances of domestic abuse, which constitutes a form of malicious desertion."

I know that view has been argued for a while, but my question is: when/how did this become the official position of our synod (so that it gets enshrined in the catechism explanation)?

Your Turn / Installation Question
« on: September 30, 2017, 08:57:38 PM »
I just received word that one of the parishes of our Crookston Circuit will be installing its new pastor on October 15 at 10:00 AM.  Which means that literally NONE of the other pastors of the circuit will be able to attend, as we all will be in our own churches leading services.  To make matters worse (at least for me and my congregations), the pastor-elect is a former vicar of mine at Crookston/Eldred.  So, my question (especially to LCMS pastors here): is this common, to have the installation at such a time?  It has always been my experience that these services have been afternoon or early evening to accommodate the neighboring pastors (and their parishioners, should they wish to attend).  I have just send word to our circuit visitor, expressing my profound disappointment at this scheduling choice.
