There’s A Lively LUTHERAN Discussion Going On…

We Hope You’ll Consider Joining In!

LUTHERAN FORUM and FORUM LETTER,

our flagship publications, are about both the faith once delivered to the saints and what is going on today in our culture, in our parishes, in our seminaries and in our national churches.

If you too love the Lutheran tradition, sometimes worry about its future, and want to keep up with the news in the LCMS, the ELCA, the NALC, and LCMC, and with what other faithful Lutherans around the world are thinking and writing about worship, theology, ecumenism and more, the FORUM Package is one of the best bargains around.

LUTHERAN FORUM is a 64-page quarterly journal with thoughtful articles written by a diverse group of authors.

Dr. R. David Nelson comes with vast experience in the publishing world. He is the Senior Acquisitions Editor of Baker Academic & Brazos Press in Grand Rapids, Michigan. David is the author or editor of numerous theological books and essays, including some for the ALPB. He has a M. Div. from Beeson Divinity School and Ph. D. from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He teaches courses in theology and the history of Christianity for the Institute for Lutheran Theology and for the North American Lutheran Seminary. He and his wife Dacia have three children.

Associate Editor Matthew Staneck received his B.A. from Valparaiso University, studying political science and classical civilizations. He received his M. Div from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and serves as pastor at True Light Lutheran Church in Lower Manhattan. He also serves as the circuit visitor for Circuit 6 of the Atlantic District of the LCMS. He and his wife Stephanie, a bridal sales representative in Manhattan, were married in October 2014 and live in Lower Manhattan.

Associate Editor Piotr J. Małysz is Assistant Professor of Divinity in History and Doctrine at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama, and an ordained pastor in the LCMS. He holds a BA from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, an MDiv from Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, and a ThD from Harvard. He is the author of Trinity, Freedom and Love: An Engagement with the Theology of Eberhard Jüngel, and co-editor of Luther Refracted: The Reformer’s Ecumenical Legacy. He has published articles in Modern Theology, Scottish Journal of Theology, International Journal of Systematic Theology, Harvard Theological Review, and Pro Ecclesia. Before coming to Beeson, Małysz was a Lilly Fellow and Lecturer in Theology at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana.

FORUM LETTER is a monthly 8-page lively newsletter that most subscribers read from start to finish on the day it arrives.

Editor Richard O. Johnson retired in 2013 after 38 years as a parish pastor. He received his B.A. from San Francisco State University in Philosophy and Religion; an M.Div. from Yale; and a Ph.D. in Church History from the Graduate Theological Union. He is an Affiliate Associate Professor of Church History at Fuller Theological Seminary, teaching at their Northern California campus and in their online program. He has written articles for Lutheran Quarterly and Word and World and delivered several papers at the Lutheran Historical Conference. He and his wife, Lois Solberg Johnson, live in Grass Valley, CA. and are the parents of two children: Luke Johnson, a journalist in Houston, and Johanna Rehbaum, a pastor in the Upstate New York Synod of the ELCA.

Associate Editor Peter Speckhard serves as Senior Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Munster, Indiana. He previously served as Senior Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Associate Pastor, also at Faith, and missionary-at-large for the Northern Illinois District of the LCMS, planting Community of Faith Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, IL. He is a 1997 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (though he attended both LCMS seminaries, transferring from Ft. Wayne after one year due to a job opportuity for his wife in St. Louis) and a 1992 graduate of Valparaiso University, where he received a B.A. in English as a Christ College associate. He has also served in the U.S. Army Reserves, has participated in the pastor-theologian program of the Center for Theological Inquiry in Princeton, NJ, and has served on the boards of various LCMS-affiliated schools and organizations. He is married to Heidi, a Latin teacher-turned-homemaker and has six children.

It has been said of “Forum Letter” that it “is a report of Lutheran doings that is sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, and often both; sometimes controversial but almost never dull.”
